Another year has come and past....

And again... I obviously am not on top of my game... or just this blog. It really doesn't help, and not trying to make an excuse, that I don't have internet in my home. I know I know... That is CrAzY!!!! But girl has bills and high priorities that do not put internet or cable too high on that list!
Any who....

Ahhh... what a year can do. It has been a little more than a year since I have been back in FL(and pretty sure my last post... my bad!) and it seems like so much has happened...

And of course everyone(I'm sure... ) is wondering when I am returning to the wonderful New York City.... Well on top of me being the worst saver ever, aaaaand a horrible shopping addiction, and living in an area most people refer to Burbon St.... I'm not on that fast track back... but it still will be happening... in my own time!!

I love where I am now. Kinda. A few things I would change... But where I live and work couldn't be better!! I do need to make a few adjusstments to the house... but its a work still in process and its almost been a year there. I'm ok with that! Work is good. Recent promotion will def. be a lead to good things =)

Hopefully will also be getting internet soon so these updates won't be as far spaced... maybe ; )

Till next time...

I'm Horrible at this!!!

So if we take a look back at all my dates I've actually posted something, there tends to be big gaps... and yet again I slacked and didn't do anything for almost 10 months now. WOW... I really need to stop slacking! I guess you can say I get into funks and don't have any motivation. Plus not to make any excuses, but for about half of the time my little mini wasn't being cooperative and needed to be fixed! Well Viola... it is finally fixed and back into my possession(it made it's way from GA this Wednesday!!! YAY!).

And yes it did travel all the way from GA to my new home in.... drumroll please....... TAMPA!!! Yay!! In my slacking period, lots of things happened. Earlier this year things started to happen at work/home(New ownership, LOTS of changes at work and some personal crap), and more opportunities(Jobs that would make me more mula!!!) started popping up in Tampa. Eventually after a few friends didn't stop trying to convince me to move back... I just decided I was going to make it happen! And I did!!! I planned on going to Tampa for a few weeks, find a place and go back to GA and get my stuff. Well it didn't quite work out that way(couldn't find a place in those few weeks, jobs that were set up both fell through, and didn't get all my things out of GA...), but thanks to many friends, I made use of what I was given and finally, after two months, I found a place of my own and have been getting by quite nicely! Thankfully within the few weeks of being here and those other jobs falling through, I found a job rather fast! And its awesome! Love pretty much everyone there and I'm bartending and serving... Not what I'd love to be doing(yay for my BoA in Fashion for.... what?!?) but, for now it works! Not to mention, as soon as I do get all of my belongings from GA(all the fun sewing things and crafts), I will start doing the Saturday Market so I can sell my creations! I'm excited!!!

But have no fear, because this blog isn't named 'My Yellow Brick Blog Back to NY' for nothing.... It is still in my plans and it WILL still happen! This is just another chapter before I start that one!!! And might I add, this was a very good chapter to embark on... I'm probably the happiest I've been in awhile... not saying I didn't love being around all my family and friends in GA... it's just that GA was never for me... And I have always said if I couldn't be in NY, Tampa was my next option!! So yay for being a Florida Girl again!!!

Till next time(and no it won't be months this time)

Time to tear... the few things I'm loving for Fall 2010!!

Yup, I'm referring to my tear sheets. At first all I was doing with the new magazines, was folding down what I liked. I knew eventually I would tear them out, just didn't want to because they were so new. But this morning I did it! Now I have piles of different trends for fall: the 50's, any thing leopard print, ruffles and lace, military, and (every girly girls love) Sparkles!!!

I really am loving it all!! I used to not really like fall. Being the Floridian that I am, I was perfectly OK with summer all year around! Fall clothing in warmer climate tends to be a lot different than clothing in a colder climate. In the colder climates the actually keep you warm, but living in Florida I never had to get much of a fall wardrobe that had the purpose to keep you warm, rather than keep up with a fall palate and trends. But eventually fall grew on me. When I was in New York, fall pretty much just started. I had to acquire some new fall pieces(that actually kept me warm) and I actually enjoyed shopping for them. I started to think about and draw more fall pieces when I would sketch. And the fabric selections in New York were more elaborate than the few heavier fabrics you would be able to find in Florida.

On another note.... now that I'm getting myself back into the fashion outside Dallas, Ga, and getting all these fall trends, it is about to be time for Spring inspirations... Fashion Week is only a Week (and a day technically) away!!! And oh how I wish I was in NYC for this one!! First of all, FNO!!! The second annual Fashions Night Out is on the 10th, even if I couldn't afford any of the special sales that will be going on, I'd still love to venture out in the city just to see everyone and everything! Events GALORE are going on... and there is a guide in Vogue if you want all of them! I'd say top three I wouldn't miss would have to be Ping Pong with Rag & Bone, Karaoke with Proenza Schouler and the Olsen twins, and dance lessons with Vera Wang and figure skating champion Evan Lysacek at her Mercer st. location. Second, the move from the coveted Bryant Park to the Lincoln Center is probably going to be EPIC! All the pre-fashion week stuff that is going on there will be to die for!! yet again all the details are in Vogue(and prob all over their website- which is on my links if you want to check it out when you are done here!)! All in all, I wouldn't want to miss this, but obviously am going to. But don't worry, because I will be looking at all the updates I can handle throughout the days passing! And I plan on starting sketches and ideas for spring in the weeks to come after fashion week. But still will be looking at fall.... oh how I love the crazy fashion industry; getting ready for one season to be on the racks while thinking about the next season on the runway.... never a dull moment!!

and a last note

one fall picture/cover I'm currently in love with:
It looks like a dress to me, with a blue waistline... great styling! Love it!

Till next time,

WANTED: Motivation... ASAP!!!!

Ok ok ok.... I know I have been slacking on the second revival of this, here, blog! I'm still alive I promise! and I'm still planning on doing EVERYTHING I talked about in the previous post... promise!! I have been receiving my magazines(my only outside source to the fashion world, without having to borrow a computer), and marking my favorite new fall pieces and inspirations!! So slack I may have on the blog, and might not be sketching as much as I'd like to be, but I HAVE been looking at a few different magazines, with all new fall fashions, and getting inspired!!!

And Now I have a computer of my own!! Yup that's right... MY OWN!!!! It's a little mini, but so far I love it! And now I have access to everything!! I'm excited to be connected easily to all the fashion that is out there and all the inspiration my little heart can desire... at the touch of my fingertips!! LOVE IT!!!!

So have no fear, now that my mini is here!! I will be doing better at this blog thing and working on my goals more often! I def. think that this new little mini might be a motivational kick in my butt!! Or so I'm hoping!! Next on the "list of things to acquire to help me"- a Digital Camera! Yeah I know my IPhone has one, but its not the same!! and when I need to take pictures of the things I made , to post online to sell, I will have a good quality shot to show all the wonderful prospective owners!

But for now I will Marvel in my new mini ^ and get work done... till NYC!!

Till next time,

I can't believe it....

It's already been a year... A YEAR!!!! OK more like a year and three months... I just rounded : )

WOW!!! So much has happened.... Well kinda!! From living here to living there... To not working and being a live in nanny to bartending and now serving. It's definitely been a crazy year!!!

And now I'm about to be turning a quarter of a century old soon... Whoa(in the only way 'whoa' would be remembered thanks to the show blossom)!!!!! And as much as this past year has been crazy... I feel I've lost a bit of my inspiration... But not my desire to return to the big city!! So recent thoughts and conversation(as well as the big 2-5 coming up) have made me want to kick myself back into my NY mind set... And starting to get sh** done!!! I've been in a rut for far too long and it's time to make all my ideas into reality... And one step at a time I will return to where I really want to be!!! As well as getting out of my rut, I've been saving for a car... but recently said "Fu** a car... I'm Moving Back!!!!" Why do I need a car when, where I want to be, I don't need it!!! I'd rather be saving up for a start to moving back and actually be able to live(rent, food, subway fare ect.) while I look for a way to stay(A JOB!!!)!!!

So my plan:
Along with things I've done like getting organized(I have tons of beads, buttons, and fabrics, odds and ends, ribbons and way more... Most of which I acquired from my internship. I got it all into shelves and bins where I can see it and use it, instead of boxed up and 'out of sight, out of mind')... And getting re-inspired( yay for subscriptions to W, Vouge, and Glamour!!! I also have been trying to find any style app for the phone)... I want to start working daily, a few hours a day when I'm not actually serving, and work on something different each time!!! Weather it be practice sketching, sewing, finding inspiration and everything in between!!!

So here we go again, on my journey back to the Big City!!! Follow me if you will, or don't... its up to you. In this yellow brick blog I will comment on everything from my everyday work as a server and my observations to struggles with my dream, be it break downs, break ups, to over coming my obstacles! Hopefully I will get atleast a chuckle... for me I know I laugh at most of what I tend to write about. And if not I know I will be able to look back one day at what I went through, to get to where I am(hopefully where I dream of being years down the road)!!!

Im still here!!!

Woo Hoo!!! I wasn't ready to leave so I put up a fight... or figured how to come up with one more months rent =) And thus I'm still frantically looking for a job so this rent payment can be made in the future, enabling the idea of going anywhere far from this place! *unless it is for a short period of time where I return to my humble abode in Brooklyn safe and sound!
So along with the searching endlessly for a job, I tend to take a few breaks in the wonderful Union Square. I stop to read, eat and intake its surroundings, which in short never cease to humor me! The other day there was a bum, who was walking around with a sign that read 'I need money for beer'- hey atleast he is honest. Well a group decided their change worthy of such honestly and the guy ended up hanging around for far longer than was welcomed. He told stories of stealing, how he can't get arrested, and how his friend got a concussion when they broke in for a nap. He would only break in between to chug a shot from the plastic vodka bottle he had. Hilarious! This guy was WAISTED! He had a few jokes up his sleeve as well! Finally the group was the one who got up and left and I went back to being able to read with no distraction. ahhh... I love it!
Anywho... Im still crossing my fingers for a few places to call me back! and hopefully they will next week if not I have a hopeful interview already set for next week =) so keeping my chin up and thinking positively... for now... later gator...

less than two weeks in counting...

Sadly, in less than two weeks, I will be leaving the city I have fallen so madly in love with... and I haven't even seen most of what it has to offer! Anyone have ideas on how to make $1700 in 2 weeks?!? I went on another open call extravaganza yesterday- found 7 and made it to 6- damn me for leaving my resumes at the first one and realizing it going to the only one that was only an hour long-awsome! but no worries, the 6 hopefuly will bring something good. but then again, I have done this before and the interviews seem great, they write little notes, say they are putting this one aside, and then they never call... but trying to remain positive... and hoping the few that were good will call-plus a few didn't seem to crowded as excpected so maybe its a better chance. I might attempt a few more days of this to improve my chances as well... gotta do some research on the good ol faithful-Craigslist- and hope i recieve some much needed subway fare. I definately went ALL over the city yesterday, and they all seemed to perfectly go from one end to the other.(or midtown to downtown).. got off at houston atleast 2 different times, went to south ferry for the first time and re-submitted my resume to one open call I recognized walking to in hells kitchen-hey maybe they will recognize my resume and give me a shot...

I wish I had my selling licence, I'd set up shop in Union Square.. sell random shit... things Ive made and collected cause I don't know how to really sell them... i.e. embroidered tops, a calendar, collaged shit and handbags... random... I know! Maybe one day I will just go out there with my suitecase and try until a cop asks me for the selling licence and then just play dumb... Im a girl... it can work right?!?!

Today, on the other hand of being productive in my search to stay in NY-which I wasn't, I walked, yes WALKED, to the Brooklyn Bridge Park. I was shooting for the Brooklyn Promonade, but decided the park would do. So yeah, definately walked down Flushing ave the entire way, wasn't sure if that was a smart idea before I left, but I figured it was mid-day and I'd be fine-plus I clipped my pepper spray in my pocket just in case. It actually wasn't soo bad... yeah the first few blocks looked like rundown warehouses-which they probably were.. and after the few neighborhoods I wouldn't be caught dead in if it was night time... it turned into a predominant orthodox jewish area(obvious by the guys with top hats and curls and every lady in a long ankle length skirt, hoes, flats and 90% pushing mini versions of either of the previous descripitons around in a stoller). Then... it was nice downtown brooklyn area/prospect hieghts.
all in all a good walk, but defiantly not one I would take past 5 pm. It was a beautiful day out too! damn the hot dog guy for not being open, but still sat and read on the dock and had a good time.

till the next time.... peaceout cub scout!
